I fell in love with this series from the first book. Ms. Treanor knows how to pull you in with a tale of mystery and dark romance.
This one can be read as a standalone, even though you'll encounter the hero and heroine from the first book.
It all starts with Lady Guinevere having to go with her newly wedded sister, to stay with her, until she gets used to her new family. But Guin both falls in love with the castle - which gives her all kinds of ideas for the book she wants to write - and scares her, because she's staying in the part of the castle that isn't being used and where she hears weird noises. Of course that she goes to investigate, to see what happens and that's when she meets our hero/ anti-hero, Kasimir. Except... he's not alive.
Or is he?
Ms. Treanor had me second-guessing everything and sitting on the edge of the chair, waiting to see what happens. Who's the bad guy? Who's the good guy? Just when you think you have it all figured out, she throws in a twist you didn't see coming, making you, once again, think about who, what, where and how.
I loved this book and I honestly can't wait to read more in this series. I loved the small but important part the previous book's main characters played.
